Italian tutor

• The development language skills, and an understanding of how language works

Home Tuition Scotland Standard Grade Italian tutors, Intermediate Italian tutors, Higher Italian tutors, and Advanced Higher Italian tutors develop an awareness of the key concepts and patterns of language as an essential part of language learning. Knowing about language will be developed from the 5-14 programme. Access to and application of grammatical structures and patterns increases understanding of Listening and Reading beyond the mere recognition of items of vocabulary, and enables learners to monitor the accuracy and appropriateness of the language they produce in Speaking and Writing.

• The development of learning and thinking skills

Standard Grade Italian tuition, Intermediate Italian tuition, Higher Italian tuition, and Advanced Higher Italian tuition recognises that using a different language requires the application of a range of skills: problem-solving, reasoning and decision-making skills. Effective use of the dictionary and of other reference sources is an essential skill, which must be taught and practised to enable the learner to identify, organise, process and restructure information. The ability to use the dictionary independently to understand and to produce text (applied language) is essential in language learning and this is assessed in the Reading and Writing elements of Standard Grade Modern Languages.

• The development of learner autonomy

Standard Grade Italian lessons, Intermediate Italian lessons, Higher
Italian lessons, and Advanced Higher Italian lessons involve the ability to adapt and change, to learn how to learn, to evaluate what has been learned, how effectively it has been learned and how it connects to what is already known should be further developed through Standard Grade.

• The development of self esteem and positive dispositions

A Standard Grade Italian tutor, Intermediate Italian tutor, Higher Italian tutor, and Advanced Higher Italian tutor stresses that the activities and experiences of the Modern Languages classroom will help learners to develop a sense of themselves as confident and successful language learners and users, working with others and developing intercultural awareness, empathy and responsibility towards others through participation in an expanding network of ‘real’ and ‘virtual’ communities: school, local, regional, national and international.
